the entire campus clean and healthy and to live in harmony with the
creation of God. It is also aware of the importance of students and
staff participating in the off-campus ecological programs so as to grow
with a sense of responsibility in relation to environment and ecology.

The
Off-Campus Social Welfare Residence Programme of the College is being
conducted in partnership with the Kodungaiyur Slum Project of SWAP/UELCI
and in addition to this students are visiting the Govt. Observation
Home at Chennai, India. It is a living-in-experience in urban poverty
and is offered to all B.D. students through their weekly visits to the
slum. Programmes like free tuition for the under-privileged students,
distribution of study materials and house visitations, street play,
awareness classes, cleaning, (used) cloth distribution and medical camps
were conducted during this academic period.
In addition to this, the Director of Social Defence, Chennai has given
permission to students of Gurukul to visit Govt. Observation Home, Chennai
- 10, on Saturdays between 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Each team consists of
10 students, including boys and girls. The purpose of the visit is both
instructive and educative in nature. Students help them in healing their
wounds by just offering a hand of friendship and being with them. It
helps our students to become aware of their problems. In each session,
there are group discussions, singing of action songs, skits, story telling,
games etc. At the end of each day, food packets are being distributed.

program enhances students to access congregation-related ministries
such as Christian education - Sunday School, Work among Youth and Women,
House visits with the pastors, Hospital and Prison visits, involvement
in Worship and Preaching during the four-year period of students. The
rural and urban exposure program during their September breaks and the
Internship program for a period of five months at the end of their second
year of study and work in the slums periodically provide ample opportunity
to have a guided experience in the work of congregations and other life
situations that motivate them to learn and to serve, discover for themselves
the meaning of the Gospel, and develop the essential sensitivity, ability
and responsibility to lead others.
Internship Program
Internship
commences from May to August of every year, where students of third
year B.D. class are engaged in an intensive internship program based
on the Four-fold ministry of worship, nurture, proclamation and development.
The object of this is to train students and challenge congregations
towards a holistic ministry of the church.

students not only have the privilege of listening to the lectures but
