Faculty Profile

Dr. K. Rajaratnam is a Professor in the Department of Social Analysis and the Director Emeritus of Gurukul Lutheran theological College & Research Institute. He holds a B.A. (Hons.) from Madras Christian College and an M.A. from Madras University. He holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics, London, an award of D.Th. from Budapest Academy, D.D. from the Senate of Serampore College, and a D.Litt. from the S.V. University. He is a teacher of exceptional merit having 22 years in various reputed Institutions & Colleges and has visited 12 foreign Universities worldwide. He is an economist with a human face seeking to introduce ethical & moral values and sensitivity into the community of the church. He is a great leader, administrator, founder of CReNIEO and Master of the Senate of Serampore College. He is a thinker, prolific writer, where a number of articles and books on social issues bear witness to his erudition.


Dr. Jesudas Mathew Athyal is Associate Professor in the Department of Social Analysis. He isa member of the Mar Thoma Church. Dr. Athyal holds an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Kerala and Ph.D. from the University of Poona. At Gurukul, Dr. Athyal also teaches courses - at the B.D. and M. Th. levels - in Indian Christian Theology and Dalit Theology. He is a teacher for Senate of Sermapore College's D. Min. course. He is the Editor of the Gurukul Journal of Theological Studies and the Gurukul News.

Dr. Athyal has lectured at various institutions including the Princeton Theological Seminary and the Mar Thoma Theological Seminary. He has also presented papers at several ecumenical conferences in Asia and around the world. He is the Associate Editor of the Dictionary of South Asian Christianity, a single volume encyclopedia on all aspects of Christianity in South Asia. He is a member of several forums including the M. M. Thomas Ecumenical Charitable Trust and the Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton (USA). He serves also as the Registrar of the Academy of Ecumenical Indian Theology.

Dr. Athyal's articles have appeared in several books and journals including the International Review of Mission and Dharma Deepika. The books written/ edited by him include:
