Faculty Profile


Rt. Rev. Dr. M. Azariah is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Dalit Theology. He holds a B.A. from Madras Christian College, an M.A. from New College. He secured B.D. from the United Theological College, Bangalore, S.T.M. from Virginia Theological College and was conferred a D.D. degree from the same college (Virginia Theological College). Formerly, he was Secretary of the Bible Society for the state of Tamilnadu, India, then the General Secretary of the Church of South India Synod for 8 years, Bishop of the madras Diocese for 9 years. He is a prolific writer and an articulated orator on the subject of Dalit discrimination. His innumerable articles & books highlight the same. He is the first one to represent Dalit concerns in the General Assembly of WCC. He has participated in the World Conference on Human Rights held in Vienna, the meetings of the UN Human Rights Commission. He is presently the chairperson of the Dalit Liberation Education Trust.
