Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute are one of the leading theological colleges and it is affiliated to the Senate of Serampore. Established in 1953, as an Ecumenical seminary it continuous to impart education and train leaders for the churches in India.
Christian Studies at Gurukul
Gurukul plays a key role in making theological education more people-centred. BCS enables the laypersons of the church to be theologically equipped at their convenient time without affecting their vocation.
Goal of Christian Studies
. To extend the opportunity of Theological Education to all educated and to the ones employed in secular fields irrespective of age ,gender , color, caste and creed .
. To uphold the Reformation Paradigm of ‘ Priesthood of all Believers’.
. To enable the lay persons to become faithful servant – leaders of the church.
Diplomas and Degrees Offered:
Diploma in Christian Studies (D.C.S)
The Candidate should have completed 18 years of age and passed 10+2 or passed 10th with at least five years of ministerial experience.
Duration: Two Years
Bachelor of Christian Studies (B.C.S.)
. Should have a Bachelor Degree Or B.Th degree of the Senate of Serampore College (University) Or A matured person who is at least 25years of age with two years of professional experience and has passed “Matured Candidates” Entrance Examination Or Should have done Diploma in Christian Studies of the Senate of Serampore College (University), in Second Class.
Duration: Four Years
Master of Christian Studies (M.C.S.)
.Candidates should have passed BCS or BD or any degree equivalent to BCS from a university recognized by the Senate of Serampore College (University) and the candidate should have a minimum of one year of ministerial experience after BCS or BD.
Duration: Three Years
Medium of Instruction for all courses: English and Tamil

Mode of Study
Books and Hand-outs will be provided. Required readings will be suggested.
The Martin Luther Library is the centre for academic excellence. It provides an access to a range of Books, Journals, Encyclopedias and Commentaries. It has more than 60,000 volumes. Students are given training on how to use and access the online resources for their class and research work.
It will be arranged for two days at Gurukul thrice a year. It offers a range of lectures, powerpoint presentations and seminars conducted by professors. It also gives you an opportunity to interact with the staff and fellow students.
